Remises in Buenos Aires
The remises emerged in the middle of the 20th century as a result of the budding nightlife in Argentina when private cars started to offer rides outside theatres.
Differences
Remises are different from taxis in three ways:
- The remises don't have a specific color or distinguishing features.
- Remises don't have a meter. The prices are determined in advance according to the route.
- Remises can't stop on the street to pick up passengers. They must be booked by phone or at a remisería.
Remises are considered by many to be a higher quality of transport than taxis and the vehicles are generally in better condition. Fares tend to be similar.
